![]() ![]() So to help you understand my situation, that's where I stand. One of (if not, the only) reason(s) I keep bringing up BBKs is because everyone around me (my cousin who's been into modding his cars and the shop I'm sending it to) keep insisting I get one for my track intentions and the car's added power. Any more complaints about how I'm living my life? But ironically, I seem to have enough money to complete the project (I guess that's why 67 hours a week of work at $9 does a teen good during the summer!) I'm currently a college student so I don't have the time or knowhow to modify it correctly. Here's the shop I'm giving my car to in case you have anything to say about them, Illinoisans: Īnd yes, I'm sending it to a shop, forgive me. Nonetheless, I am inclined to trust them both. (1) The shop may just want me to spend more money for the sake of their own pockets, and (2) my cousin may simply just be somebody that uses money to solve his problems, I don't know. See you next week? One of (if not, the only) reason(s) I keep bringing up BBKs is because everyone around me (my cousin who's been into modding his cars and the shop I'm sending it to) keep insisting I get one for my track intentions and the car's added power. I've got no problem, mind you, on throwing money at toys to make it cooler, but an essential step in Self Actualization is being able to accurately judge your own motivations. No offense, but near as I can tell the sole justification for it seems to be that you want it. I get the impression that you're not so much looking for advice as to looking for support for your desire to spend money on a BBK. Would a combination of different pads and rotors be more suitable? (Source: )īaer and Hawk look like they only manufacture rotors or pads individually, no kits. (Source: )īrembo GTs from LPI Racing run for $1,515. (Source: )īrembo GTs cost $1,695 from Turner Motorsport. Standard StopTech Big Brake kit is not worth it. At the least, I will have to pay $2845 for a pair on an E30 M3, whereas I will pay a little over $1,500 for a set of Brembo GTs. StopTech Trophy STR kits are by NO MEANS worth it. Either way, get AT LEAST slotted for a balance of heat management and surface area. RESEARCH: -įind out if the Brembo GT pads for the BMW E30 M3 outgas - this will determine if I need the drilled set up. I can't come to grips if the lessened surface area is worth the trade off in terms of increased heat dissipation. There is so much controversy it seems in the drilled, slotted and blank debate. I have heard a lot of good about Hawk and EBC.įeel free to correct me if I'm wrong anywhere in my research, or if you can point me in the right direction for better prices, don't hesitate! There must be cheaper alternatives, and the only thing included in a BBK that differs from buying individually are the pretty red calipers that really don't matter that much to me anyway. It seems I'm really just being ripped off by buying a BBK from a big-name brand. Unless - someone can recommend a better combination of individually sold pads and rotors. So here are my findings, it appears the E30 M3 brake setup from LPI Racing is my best bet. I intend for this car to be streetable, but its emphasis will be to participate in SCCA events (hopefully races too, but I have no clue what class it would be classified as!). I have a 1985 BMW 323i that will have an S54 mated to an E36 M3 5-speed.
